Dr. Michael Anthony (Tony) Cappello is a Principal Scientist and Epidemiologist with 20 years of experience in a variety of public health practice, leadership, scientific, and academic roles. He specializes in the practical application of public health and epidemiological methods to inform scientific-based decision making, including using statistical analysis, public health surveillance, and published literature to identify and assess human health risks and exposures. Dr. Cappello was formerly the Director of Disease Control for the State of Colorado and served as Colorado’s State Environmental Epidemiologist. Prior to this, he was the Public Health Director for the Northeast Colorado Health Department and was appointed by the Governor of Colorado to the State Board of Health where he served as Board President from 2015 to 2017. Since 2012, Dr. Cappello has been an Adjunct Professor teaching and writing graduate level courses in epidemiology, environmental health, and public health leadership, policy, and ethics.
